It’s possible
Reparations are not as unimaginable as we think
Reparations are not unimaginable. They are only made to seem unimaginable when Black people are the ones to whom the debt is owed.
This country does not lack the capacity for reparations. It lacks the will to acknowledge and repair the catastrophic harm it has done.
This week, I read that the Department of Justice created a nearly $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” as part of a settlement connected to Donald Trump dropping his lawsuit against the IRS. The fund is being framed as a way to compensate people who claim they were harmed by “weaponization” and “lawfare.” It’s quite possible that January 6 defendants and Trump allies could seek money from this fund.
Hopefully, not too many of us are still wondering whether reparations are possible.
They are possible.
